Definition & Role
The UCI Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity (OEOD) is responsible for the University's compliance with federal and state laws and University policies and procedures regarding discrimination, retaliation, sexual harassment, and sexual violence. OEOD works to promote and integrate the principles of equal opportunity, affirmative action, and nondiscrimination at UCI. OEOD serves both the campus and UCI Health, including the medical center.
What OEOD Does
- Works to resolve complaints of discrimination, sexual harassment, and/ or sexual violence through informal resolution or formal investigation. Responds to complaints filed with outside agencies including the Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH), the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and the Office of Civil Rights (OCR)
- Explains and clarifies federal and state laws and regulations and university policies and procedures regarding discrimination, harassment, sexual violence, retaliation, affirmative action, and disability accommodations and accessibility.
- Compiles data for the annual affirmative action and organizational analysis. Assists departments in adhering to diversity, nondiscrimination, and affirmative action guidelines during faculty and staff recruitment process
- Offers a variety of training programs and workshops in sexual harassment, sexual violence and discrimination prevention; diversity, cultural awareness, and cross-cultural communication; and accessibility and accommodations for students, faculty and staff.
